The British phenomenon known as Yungblud left it all on the House of Blues stage Sunday night. He blew through Texas with back-to-back shows in Austin and Dallas on his 15-city tour of the American leg of his Idols: World Tour.

Yungblud became famous for his genre-bending music, honest lyrics addressing social issues and mental health, and his charismatic stage presence. He built a strong connection with his fanbase by creating a sense of community and acceptance for his listeners, whom he often calls “outsiders” and “weirdos.”

That group of “weirdos” has grown to include fans of all ages who are obsessed with his frequent Instagram posts; his IG channel has 157k members who receive texts, photos and voice messages from Yungblud several times a day. This form of fan engagement has proven most successful for his energy and commitment level. This Gen-Z rocker has attracted the Gen-X population like hasn’t been done since the 80’s.

High-profile collaborations, like ones with Dan Reynolds, Machine Gun Kelly and Halsey, and his iconic tribute performance to Ozzy Osbourne on July 5 in Birmingham, England, further boosted his profile, solidifying his place as a modern rock figure. His version of “Changes,” written by Osbourne, has recorded 7.7 million views so far. Ozzy had mentored the young dynamo and remarked that Yungblud’s version – which had an arena full of people singing along (via Freddy Mercury style) – was “better than me.”

The video for “Zombie,” from the Idols album, stars actress Florence Pugh of Oppenheimer and Thunderbolts. In the video, she portrays a nurse at her emotional brink, highlighting the burnout, grief, and exhaustion faced by healthcare workers. Yungblud has described the song as a “love letter to nurses,” acknowledging the emotional cost of their work and their importance in helping others through scary times. Pugh’s exceptional ability to portray those dark emotions, laced together with his powerful voice and dynamic lyrics, will touch even the hardest heart.

Yungblud was born Dominic Richard Harrison (b. August 5, 1997) in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Harrison was raised in a musically rich environment—his father was a vintage guitar dealer, and his grandfather performed with the legendary glam rock band T. Rex. He studied at the Arts Educational Schools in London and began his career in television, appearing in Emmerdale and Disney’s The Lodge before transitioning to music.

Yungblud’s sound fuses elements of alternative rock, pop-punk, and hip-hop, often exploring themes of identity, mental health, and rebellion. His debut EP Yungblud (2018) and first album 21st Century Liability (2018) introduced his raw, confrontational style. He followed with The Underrated Youth EP in 2019 and the chart-topping Weird! in 2020. His self-titled third album Yungblud (2022) also reached number one in the UK.

His latest album, Idols (2025), marks a significant artistic evolution. Described by Harrison as a project that came “from [his] heart and not from [his] head,” Idols is the first installment of a planned double album. It explores the concept of self-worth and the dangers of idolizing others, especially in the age of social media.

Yungblud to the rescue.

As a Gen-X’er I have neither the energy nor the inkling to stay out after 9:00 pm – even on weekends.

Enter onto the scene one Mr. Dominic Richard Harrison, the 28-year-old singer known as Yungblud who changed that desire (well, at least for one Sunday night on August 31, 2025).

Known mainly for his cover of many pop, rap and 80’s hits in his teens, he has grown into a talented young man who’s writing and producing his own music all while performing with the vibe, vivacity and charm that can hold flame to such nostalgias as Billy Idol, David Bowie, Freddy Mercury & Mick Jagger.

The energy throughout The House of Blues in Dallas, TX, lit a fire in this old gal. The exchange between him and his fans was nothing short of genuine shock as they welcomed him!

I was reminded of the intimate words from Ozzy telling him to “conquer America” and they are eerily foreshadowing, as the tour IDOLS continues into its third week in the states.

Overkill? You’re welcome to keep that opinion, but I promise you it will change after attending one of his performances.

Thank you, YUNGBLUD, for making my 80’s teenage self feel seen & heard!
